Refund STOLEN by Santa barbara

I filed my tax return without TurboTax. They altered my submission and my refund went to their third party company: Santa Barbara Tax Group. They have yet to return it to me and I cannot get any help from. They say they cannot locate my account or find my account. This is criminal theft. I am going to find a lawyer.

Refund STOLEN by Santa barbara

I don't work for TurboTax.  I'm a fellow user. This is mainly a user community forum, not a direct route to TurboTax Support.  I can give you some general information that might help.  Where the refund goes depends on what options you chose when you filed the return.

If you chose to pay your TurboTax product fees out of your Federal refund, then that sets up a temporary bank account in your name at a third-party bank.  That process is usually administered by Santa Barbara Tax Products Group (SBTPG).   Then normally the third-party bank receives the funds from the IRS then subtracts the TurboTax product fees, and sends the rest to your bank account (or card.)   If the deposit from the third-party bank to your bank (or card) fails, it goes back to the third-party bank, who either issues a check in the mail, or in some cases sends it back to the IRS.

However, if you chose the optional "Up to 5 days early" offer, the process can be different.   That may or may not involve a Credit Karma Money account, Cross River Bank, or a bank called MVB.   For example, if one were to choose the free version of the "Up to 5 days early" offer, it would open up a Credit Karma Money account, where the refund would go, and Credit Karma Money uses MVB Bank to receive the deposit.

You should be able to tell by the routing number what bank it was sent to.   Also, you should be able to tell if it went to SBTPG by using their taxpayer portal at:
https://www.sbtpg.com/

If SBTPG says they have no account; i.e., if they say it didn't go to their bank, then it may have gone to one of the other banks mentioned above, depending on what options you chose.

Nothing account-specific can be handled in this user forum.  You should be able to speak to TurboTax Support who can look up your info to see what options you chose, etc. and where your funds likely ended up.  Their phone number is at the link below.   I've also left info on another way to reach a TurboTax Support agent.
