I mailed in my return (1040-SR) Feb 29, 2020 and opted for a paper check refund as I've always done. To date my "refund status" on the IRS site indicates no status at all (yes, I entered the information correctly). I don't know if IRS didn't receive the return (got my state refund promptly as always) or if receipt and processing is just a mess right now. Have tried calling the IRS repeatedly to speak to a human, but absolutely no luck.
Question is: Should I/could I try e-filing with direct deposit or would that cause further complication should the IRS finally locate and process my paper return?
BTW I have received my "stimulus" check which I neither need nor want.

No, do not try and e-file your tax return, it will only cause more confusion in an already confused IRS environment.
The IRS is not processing paper tax returns at this time.
See this IRS website for information - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue
The IRS is not currently able to process individual paper tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your Economic Impact Payment. Paper returns will be processed once processing centers are able to reopen.
If you decide that you want to return the stimulus check, see this IRS website (Question 54) - https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payment-information-center#more
Our taxes were accepted by both the state and feds 3/20/20. I entered direct deposit information and the status on the IRS website hasn't changed at all. The state processed and accepted our payment but the feds have not. No difference from all our prior years only this time the feds haven't done a thing. No direct deposit of our refund. Who do we contact?
