Refund Processing Service

I used the CD for filing taxes, not TT online, and was charged $40 processing fee.  I don't understand this since Federal e-filing is free with TT Deluxe CD on desktop and includes one state return, which I have always printed out and mailed until TY23, when I accidentally e-filed the state return, which unwittingly trapped me into using the Refund Processing Service.    How can I fix this situation?

If you filed it is too late to change the fees unless it's rejects for something.  In the Desktop program you get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is $20 to efile, usually goes up to $25 March 1. Or you can print and mail state for free.

You didn't have to pay the Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California).  That is to have the state efile fee deducted from your federal refund.  You could have paid upfront with a credit card and avoided the extra charge.

@VolvoGirl thank you.  As you said, once selected on the TT screen it is irreversible with no remedy.  TT did not inform me on that screen about the consequences of choosing either payment option; that is, fees being paid either with credit card or by deduction from the refund.  I selected payment from the refund, then immediately regretted that choice, since it triggered the Refund Processing Service's (RPS) 5-7 pages of legal language that automatically inserts into the tax return.  Now the fine print is revealed.  But it's too late to cancel the mistake.  The worse side affect and risk is RPS shares my tax information, SSN, and other info from the tax return with their 3rd party affiliates and partners.  I hope members of the TT community may benefit from being aware of this deceptive screen in TT,  as it does not reveal or disclose what happens if you click the option to deduct from refund.  Payment from credit card is the safest, secure route and you don't risk having your personal information put out there as is the done with RPS.

Did you file  yet?  If not you can go back though the File tab and change it.  Oh, and here is the How to pay screen.  It says there is a $40 fee.

@Volvo girl

Yes, it’s filed.  I thought there was no other option after selecting fee deducted from the refund.
