Refund Check After Address Change

My accountant filed my taxes on time and entered to have my tax refund mailed vs direct deposit. Unfortunately, he entered my address incorrectly and the check was returned to the IRS. I have mailed into the IRS the form to change the address but when using the "Where's My Refund?" of the IRS website, it guides me to call them to give the updated address. When I call, after entering all my personal information, the recording says they are too busy to take any calls and I am hung up on. I imagine it will take some time for my address to be updated with the IRS. However, once it IS processed, will the system attempt to send my tax refund check again, or do I need to still reach someone over the phone to get the check issued to me in some way?

Since your accountant is the individual who made the mistake, I would get the accountant involved in this matter.

You (or your accountant) should continue trying to contact the IRS.

Refund Check After Address Change

He claimed he's been trying to reach them but gets the same response I do of not being able to get through. He said I could do something through my own IRS account. I created an account and all I can seem to find through combing through the site is how to make payments on owed taxes, not how to get a refund.

Frankly, there is not much else you can do at this point.

You already filed the change of address form (8822) so you can only continue trying to contact them.
