Turbotax instruction page figures seem wrong - state amendment

Hi,

I finished 1040x and now preparing to mail state amendment.

On the PDF file that turbotax generates, there is a summary page (instruction page).

On it, it says my state amendment return does not have any tax due or refund with "0" on it.

But on the actual return, there is a refund.

Should I just ignore the instruction page as a some kind of computer glitch?

But I am also working on 2019 return now, and when I reached the state section, it does not prompt that I had a refund in 2018. Although I will have a refund in 2018 amendment.

What is the correct way to handle the state refund input on turbotax?

If I put a wrong figure, should I have to amend 2019 state return? Or can I fix it on 2020 state return (because technically refund will be made in 2020.)

Any advise would be fine. Please give me advise!

Turbotax instruction page figures seem wrong - state amendment

It depends.

Did you go through the entire process for completing the state amendment?  If not, you will have to complete the state section to ensure the letter is updated.  Otherwise, it is being generated from the point of view that the original return has been filed and no changes have been made on the state return.

In regards to the 2019 tax return, any refund from your 2018 state amended return will not be reflected until 2020 when you submit your return.  Therefore, it would not affect your 2019 tax return.  The 2019 return should be prepared using the information from the original 2018 return as filed in 2019.
