It depends on your filing situation. If you had no TurboTax fees or paid the fees by credit or debit card up front *and* you got a refund, the IRS should have your real direct deposit info and the stimulus should go there. However, if you had fees deducted from your refund, the IRS got direct deposit info for Santa Barbara TPG instead of your bank; what will happen there is uncertain. https://www.sbtpg.com/coronavirus-stimulus-payment-info/

If you owed the IRS money for both 2018 & 2019, they may not have your direct deposit info at all. However, the IRS plans on creating a special portal where taxpayers can provide direct deposit info and avoid paper check delays. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/economic-impact-payments-what-you-need-to-know (This will also apply if SBTPG doesn't forward stimulus checks and the IRS sends them paper checks.)

Very good answer.Apparently, the last time stimulus checks were given to Americans,Turbotax did what you said. Those who owed Turbotax any fees for filing were sent a check and the no fee customers who had their direct deposit info on file received stimulus check via direct deposit with no issues..

Now of course things could be different this time.We should know definitively when Turbotax announces it,hopefully in a few days.

I finally talked to an IRS agent this morning. They did NOT have accurate information for my direct deposit. I used turbo tax and had my fees taken out of the refund. The IRS agent explained that Santa Barbara bank (whichever bank processes fees for your taxes which is what she actually said) but we know it’s SB, does have your account and routing number, but it’s not what is transmitted. Therefore, although 1040s have correct information, SB would have transmitted something else to the IRS. This is the reason that people are seeing incomplete banking info when they check the IRS website. If you didn’t get your deposit you might want to go change it on the IRS site or you will be mailed a check. Some, SOME transmissions SB would have received but it depends on the filing date (recent) and those should have gotten a dd already. If you had no fees taken out, your direct deposit information should be correct and deposit should be there if you made wave one. Gotta say a little disappointed I. Turbo tax bc they knew this per the IRS lady.

If you had your filing fee taken from your return the IRS does have your personal banking information. Turbo tax takes their fees from the front end. I got this information from a Turbotax agent.

So if we had fees deducted from taxes...which got sent to Santa Barbara....then our personal bank....irs has our bank info correct?

I paid Turbo Tax fees using my federal refund. However, when I review my tax return, the tax form has my bank routing and account number. Does this mean the IRS has my information?

Yes. The government will be able to leverage the direct deposit information in your 2019 tax return to deposit these stimulus funds electronically into your account.

“I am still confused by your site. If we got direct deposit, but fees were taken out through sbtpg will we get direct deposit to our bank? Or will the funds still go through sbtpg before hitting our bank?” Is what I asked SBTPG

In regards to your stimulus checks, it will be directly deposited to your accounts if your direct deposit information is listed on your tax return.

I am still confused then. From SBTPG he is appeared to say if my refund funneled through them I will have to sign up through the IRS portal to get my refund.

Just to clarify you are telling me that though I had fees taken out through SBTPG for turbo tax it will still go through to my personal bank without me having to go through the IRS portal?

This screen shot is from a link someone else shared. I will post it below. But if it is correct the people whose money was direct deposited through Santa Barbara Bank the IRS DOES have your direct deposit information. However if you had a check mailed to you or a debit card issued by Santa Barbara bank they DO NOT have your information and would be mailing a check. At least that is how I read this.

To help everyone check on the status of their payments, the IRS is building a second new tool expected to be available for use by April 17. Get My Payment will provide people with the status of their payment, including the date their payment is scheduled to be deposited into their bank account or mailed to them.

An additional feature on Get My Payment will allow eligible people a chance to provide their bank account information so they can receive their payment more quickly rather than waiting for a paper check. This feature will be unavailable if the Economic Impact Payment has already been scheduled for delivery.

I looked on my 2019 return that was filed to the IRS. It is indeed my own personal bank information. I feel co fident the IRS has the information. And yes, I opted to have fees paid via refund.

Alright guys I've been pulling my hair out over this and have spoken with 3 different turbo tax reps. It does not matter whether you had your fees taken by Santa Barbara or not. There is no third party involving stimulus. ONLY thing that matters is whether or not your banking info was included on your return. Check your return forms and look for your banking info. If it's there then you're good to go. If not then use the new portal or wait for paper checks. That's because there were 2 different deposits made from the IRS. One to Santa Barbara for your fees and the other to your bank. One went left and the other went right. Here's a very simplified answer from turbo themselves...

I Have Already Filed My 2019 or 2018 Tax Return

The first place the IRS will look for your bank information is your 2019 tax return. If you haven't filed yet, the agency will turn to your 2018 return. If either return has been filed and includes your bank information, you should automatically get your payment by direct deposit beginning within the next three weeks. There's nothing else for you to do.

Ok... So, if you saved the PDF file of your 2019 taxes, which is essentially a 9 page document will find the first page.

Bold font, top left 1040. Same page, top right corner, small print. For IRS use

Hang with me here. This is, in digital form, what the IRS uses to enter data into their system, that you supply to them. Ok... At the very bottom, last section, very first page...lines 19, 20a,b,c,d & 21...routing #, account #, type of account...TT is a big ole calculator, assistant, what have you. Replace Siri with TT and say, Do my taxes for me...

That's what you got...but, be thankful for them. Probably a lot more user friendly than "assistant" irs.gov would release...or any .gov for that matter.

Great. You sold my bank information to a California company?! I'll hunt you down.

The best thing to do, would be to look at your finalized 1040 form, as this is what was sent to the IRS. If your bank acct/routing numbers match, then the IRS has this info and will send to you via direct deposit. Most folks don't look at their 1040 after filing and just forget about them, but in this case... Download a copy of your tax return and check your acct. info. I've attached a copy for reference. If your bank matches lines 21b &21d, then you should be good, as this is what the IRS has. The SBTPG is done on the local level as far as intercepting returns to take fees (essentially, the front end), I believe, so there should be no issues regarding what info the IRS has. Hope this helps. Have a blessed Easter!

I did a lot of research and I hope this helps:

Everyone is concerned by the post from SBBT that states they have no affiliation with direct deposit of irs payments nor would any stimulus payments be issued to cards they themselves issued. From what I gather, these statements do not effect the turbo card/ green dot service many used this year, which includes those who opted for refund advances. None of these were issued by Santa Barbara Bank and Trust. SBBT is used by TurboTax, FreeTax USA, and other tax services to collect fees only (such as filing fees, add on services, etc...)  In other words, they are the bank that Turbo tax etc uses for themselves, not the consumer. According to the tax return paperwork, this is how our actual payment received breaks down:

“We're going to disclose the tax information described from your 2019 tax return to First Century Bank (the lender), BorrowWorks (the lender service provider) and Green Dot Bank (the issuer of the card) to process your Refund Advance loan, administer and communicate with you regarding the loan program, and to issue and manage a Turbo® Visa® Debit Card account for you.”

So the IRS has the Green Dot Bank on file, with an actual routing number and account number. Hence the reason it can be used for social security payments and direct deposit from an employer. This SHOULD mean the IRS will directly deposit via these means. However only time will actually tell...
