Turbotax calculated a refund due me of $1,656. I got $819.79. I requested a transcript and it shows a credit transfer out to 1040 202012 of $436.21. My 2020 return was messed up because I filed it before TurboTax made changes to reduce the amount of unemployment compensation subject to federal income tax. After the change, I was due a refund rather than owe the IRS. It appears the IRS deducted the $436.21 plus $400 I paid on taxes I thought were due in 2020 because of the Unemployment Income snafu. Any ideas on how I go about determining if The IRS refund amount is correct or the Turbotax refund is correct??

only the IRS knows the reason for the changes. you can call it or wait for a letter that you should get in a few weeks explaining the chnages.
I was hoping someone knew what Credit transferred out to 1040 202012 meant.
It turns out that Turbotax did not properly process the unemployment compensation I received so the refund they said I was due was less than TurboTax calculated. and I owed money.
TurboTax is a tax preparation platform. Once your return has been accepted by the IRS, TurboTax is not notified about your return at all. Privacy Laws prevents sharing information. All IRS Contacts will be to you directly.
However, if you recall, the IRS advised people not to amend their returns to make a change to Unemployment Compensation. The update would be made automatically by the IRS.
So, you will receive a notice in a few weeks that should explain all adjustments and it will provide contact information for you to contact the IRS.
