Receiving Third Stimulus Payment after filing an amended 2020 return.

When I filed my 2020 return in February, I inadvertently entered two 1099's for my employment, which really overstated my AGI. I had to file an amended return, which I e-filed to the IRS today. Because of the double income, my family did not qualify for the third stimulus payment that recently was authorized by the ARP.

Even though I e-filed the 1040X, the IRS says it will take up to 16 weeks to adjust the return. Once that is completed, we should be eligible for the $1400 per person payment.

Can anyone tell me how to go about receiving the third stimulus payment? I don't expect the Treasury Dept. to automatically send it out, that would be too easy!

Thanks!

Receiving Third Stimulus Payment after filing an amended 2020 return.

After the IRS has processed your amended 2020 tax return,, they will send you the third stimulus check if you are eligible. You do not have to take any further steps.

The IRS says in this document:

If a taxpayer's payment is less than the full amount and is based on their 2019 return, they may qualify for a supplemental payment after they file their 2020 return. The IRS will automatically reevaluate their eligibility. If the agency determines that they are entitled to a larger payment or the full payment, it will send them a supplemental payment covering the difference between what they originally received and the larger amount. If the re-evaluated amount is smaller, they won't need to pay back the difference. Aside from filing a 2020 tax return, no action is needed on their part.

The IRS issues stimulus payments, not TurboTax. Unfortunately, this means that we can't say for sure why you haven’t received your payment yet. The IRS will be issuing stimulus payments throughout the year.

Per the IRS website Get My Payment ,

The third stimulus payments are being sent in phases. Each week we're sending the third round of Economic Impact Payments to eligible individuals as we continue to process tax returns. If you haven't received a payment yet, it doesn't mean you won't.
