My husband and I owed taxes for 2018. We paid them in April. Today we received a refund check for part of what we already paid. Why?

The IRS will send you a letter in a week or two explaining why you got the refund. Just hold onto the check until you get the letter and see what it says.

No one at TurboTax has any way of knowing why you got the refund.

If you filed early and had Schedule D for investments or sales in your return the IRS had an update and has been sending refunds or tax due bills.
