We file with earned income credit and child tax credit and we got a letter 4464 C stating that it could take up to 60 days for them to start looking over our return. I did everything I was supposed to do I filed all of our documents nothing has changed as far as address banking info or dependents but our income was significantly less than last year and our jobs have changed. My husband is the only one that works because I have medical issues and we are barely making it at the moment we were really counting on that money. Is there anyway that it could be processed before the 60 days? Does the IRS just need more time because of staffing issues? I'm so confused and feel so defeated right now.

What date was your return accepted this yr? And when did you receive this 4464 C form?
It was accepted 1/28/2022 and I got the letter today but it’s dated 02/14/2022.
That is not an audit, someone may tell you it is but it isn’t. It is a process where they send it to a team called Integrity Verification Operations to match up everything with your financial institution, education accounts etc. It’s basically a thorough review of your complete return. They’ll still give you a date but if they find anything then they would reach out again. 9 times out of 10 I wouldn’t worry I had that before and I still received my return. The IRS loves to be extra. You’re good! And congrats my 2021 transcript isn’t even up yet, still says “N/A”
So you can still receive your return it’s a through review? You had this letter before and still received your return?
Yes, you could still get your refund which includes the PATH Act credits, once the IRS has verified your income and income tax withholding. The IRS selects some returns to determine if income, expenses, and credits are being reported accurately. This doesn't mean you made an error or were dishonest. Does it always take 60 days or does it take less than that sometimes?
That’s my question does it come normal because my 21 days is up this week I filled on the 3rd of this month
Did you get a letter 4464c also?
The 60-day guideline isn't set in stone. It could take less time and, unfortunately, it could possibly take longer.
Just try to be patient and not worry.
If you read Understanding Your Letter 4464C, which HelenC12 linked above, it mentions that the IRS is verifying income, expenses and credits, but also that you should consider getting an IRS Identity Protection PIN before filing your tax return.
Yes
No it won’t be normal it could take 60 days or they could send another letter after the first 60 days is up but it could also be earlier. I talked to some tax audit people and they said from here there is absolutely nothing we can do but wait. And you can’t get through to anyone at the irs I’ve tried sooo many times.
Filed mine and my partner's on Feb 1st, accepted the same day for both of us. I received my letter Feb14th as well and my husband just got his DD date for the 24th. My status bar disappeared from the IRS website and says "It's taking longer to process", I'm assuming due to the letter. I feel better hearing they are just verifying and some people still got theirs but I also keep seeing a bunch of people say it's been like 80 days and still no word from the IRS. That's really devastating to be at their mercy and just "wait".
So do you have an ddd after getting the letter ?
