It has been more than 6 weeks since I submitted my tax refund. I have received my state refund but not federal. There is no status on Where's my Refund. What to do?

You submitted, but was it Accepted?  The IRS is seriously backlogged due to all the new tax laws and extra stimulus filings, as well as a few million unprocessed 2019 returns left over from the COVID shutdown.  In addition, the Where's My Refund site has been erratic and unreliable.  But if TT told you that the IRS Accepted your filing for processing, then the government has it.  (Approved is a later step, but TT receives no further updates once a return is Accepted.)  Unfortunately, contacting the IRS will not speed things up, and they have actually told taxpayers not to call.  Lots of other folks are still waiting, so please continue to be patient. Also see:

No, TT has no information either. I mailed both state and federal returns on 16th Feb, TT is still showing 'ready to mail'. I received my state refund 1st week of march, TT hasn't updated the status.

The status on 'Where's my refund' says "We cannot provide any information on your refund." I don't even know if my federal refund has been accepted on not.

Did you claim the recovery rebate credit? If so, they sent your return off to the so called "errors department". If you're facing economic hardship you definitely qualify for the taxpayer advocacy service. They helped me figure out what happened to my refund relatively quickly and ended up giving it to me 2 weeks after I called. TT will not be updating anything, since you filed by mail.  In fact, the IRS is still processing mail from the 2019 tax season.

  • All tax return related correspondence.

We are processing all mail in the order we received it.
