IRS Letter CP53E

I had my refund rolled over to offset 2026 taxes, so I am not getting a refund issued. I have received IRS Letter CP53E requesting my bank account. Is my refund being applied to 2026 or not? I have a bank account registered with the IRS.

IRS Letter CP53E

If you elected to apply your refund to 2026 estimated taxes, it should be credited forward instead of refunded. IRS Notice CP53E usually means the IRS couldn't issue a direct deposit and is requesting updated bank information. Review your filed return (Form 1040, Line for “Amount applied to 2026 estimated tax”)  to confirm how it was processed. If the return shows it was applied forward, you shouldn't need to provide bank information unless the IRS has adjusted your return.

IRS Letter CP53E

Thanks for your reply. That said, the IRS has bank accounts listed in my profile. Yet they say there are no accounts. Another strange thing is that they are saying there is zero refund due when there is. Not sure what to do about that.

You will need to contact the IRS for information. It might be easiest to set up an account with them.
