I tried to amend 2021 return but forgot to check ITIN for my wife(wrong ITIN #)and the state return got efiled what should I do?

It was imported from pdf file and I forgot to check it. Then one number is wrong in my wife's ITIN that I was not aware. I filed the amend and the state return showed efiled and accepted. The federal asked me to mail to them.

I fixed it in turbotax and don't know what I should do now.

please help.

Anyone met such issue before?

You will need to wait until the return is rejected to make the correction, or it is accepted and then you would need to complete another amendment. To check the status of your amended return, please see the IRS website here.

Thanks for replying me. For federal amend, I also need to wait? Because I have not mailed it.

Or I just correct it and mail to them?

If you have not filed the return at all, you can make the changes and print out a new return. If you have mailed any copy or e-filed, you would need to amend. @cinmay1120

@CarissaM

Thanks for replying me.

I filed every year, but in 2021 tax return I forgot the rental property depreciation, so I want to amend it.

When I did the amend, the Federal tax asked to mail to them, but the State e-filed.

And I forgot to check the ITIN # for my wife, and got one number wrong, but State already accepted.

So for Federal, I can make changes and print out a new one and email to them, right?

For State, I need to wait until I get a reject then resend them the new one, right?

Thanks for helping me.

Yes,

so I hear you saying that you are amending the 2021 Tax Year return to claim depreciation.

That has not yet been mailed, and you noticed an incorrect ITIN for your wife.

Yes, correct that paper copy and then mail the corrected 1040X.

Yes, if using TurboTax select "Add a State" to open the program up (BUT YOU DO NOT NEED TO ADD A STATE)

Once the program is open, you can make the change to the ITIN and reprint.

Mail that corrected return.

The State may process your return and simply send you a letter asking about the ITIN.

Tax returns are tracked by the primary Social Security, so as long as your Social Security Number (or other Tax Identifying Number) is correct, the state may not need an another amended return.

Wait until you hear something from the state before you proceed.
