Amending 2020 return issues

I am amending m 2020 return because I was notified by Turbotax of a calculation error in their software for form 8615 and I overpaid my taxes.   FIrst had a problem with the instructions and software not working correctly but worked with a tech online to go in and modify the form that was not being handled correctly.   Then I was informed that I could not e file my federal return any more (which my understanding is a turbotax thing not an IRS thing) and that I needed to mail it.

OK fine so I print out the documents as per the software and according to the instructions and my own research you should only mail in forms or schedules that have CHANGED from the original return.  So why then does Turbotax's software also include in the printout forms that HAVE NOT CHANGED?  I am amending due to a calculation error in turbotax's software on form 8615.  The only forms I can see that have changed are 8615 8615 worksheet and the original 1040.  Nothing on my schedule D changed or 8995 which for some reason the are including and if thats not confusing enough the the software didn't include the 8615 worksheet which did change.  Now maybe worksheets are never sent but still??? Is there an issue with  printing out amended returns and the correct forms to be included?  Been using TurboTax many years and have to say the last year i have been disappointed.

Amending 2020 return issues

SO sorry for all the confusion!  I am unaware at this point of a known issue in printing out forms to be included with 1040-X.  There have been questions about e-filing amended returns.  Since Support told you that it must be mailed, I'd go with that.   It's a pain to mail it, but that's the way it's been done forever up until last year, I believe.

Now as to what forms to mail:  Worksheets are not typically included in filing.  But I'd advise you to go ahead and include in your mailing any forms that TurboTax printed.  Be sure you're including all the forms that have changed (of course), and any other forms that the program printed.  It's better to have more than enough info than not enough.

Also, remember to SIGN and date your 1040-X, and to mail it using certified mail so you're certain that the IRS has received it.  Additionally, if you need to amend a state return, don't forget that.

Again, my apologies.  Not an experience that inspires confidence.
