Amended return status

I filed an amended return to claim the stimulus payments for my child who I initially hadn't claimed on my return back on September 11, 2021 but it's still only showing as received but hasn't been processed yet- and at the top of the message where the status bar used to be now says take action. I called once 4 weeks ago and they said they couldn't find any reason I would have needed to call but it's been 21 weeks now and I haven't received any written correspondence from IRS either! So what does this mean?

The IRS is now saying that amended returns are taking more than 20 weeks.

Does your answer concerning the length of time it takes IRS to process an amended return apply to a 2022 return amended by e-file? The only change was to check a block (Yes, I can be claimed as a dependent by someone else)?

@t_gwynn1  Yes, I'm afraid so.

These original answers were about 2020 amendments being filed this year but the line for amendments is not getting shorter.
