To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

You can also get free transcripts of your federal return from the IRS - http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript

For a fee of $50 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

To access a prior year online tax return and you did not use TurboTax for the 2017 tax return or you did not pay for one of the 2017 online editions of either Plus, Deluxe, Premier or Self-Employed, you will need to start a 2018 Free online tax return and then Upgrade and pay for the Plus edition ($19.99).  You do not have to file the 2018 tax return only pay for the upgrade.

Go to this TurboTax website for the 2018 online editions - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

You have to sign onto the 2018 account using the exact same User ID you used to create the prior year online tax return.  Enter your personal information in the 2018 Free edition. On the left side of the screen click on Upgrade.  Scroll down and select PLUS More Help & Tools.  Click on Upgrade Now (if Plus is grayed out then you are already using Plus and only need to pay for the upgrade)

To pay the TurboTax online account fees by credit card so you can access your prior year online tax returns, click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen.  Then click on Print Center.  Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.  On the next page, to pay by credit card, click Pay Now.  On the next screen just click on the Continue button.  The next screen will show a review of your Fees, click on Continue.  Complete the next screen to pay by credit card and click Continue.

How can print

prior year

@romab84 Download the PDF of the tax return.  Open the PDF with any compatible PDF viewer, such as Adobe Reader.  Select the pages in the PDF to print.  Print to a local printer.

If you do not have a local printer, then copy the PDF download to removable media such as a USB drive.  Take the copy to a friend, relative, library or a local office supply store such as Staples or Office Max that has a printer and print the tax return.

I have filed with turbo for the last five years. I have only used the free version. I WANT TO UPGRADE TODAY. I need to download a previous year. I can't figure out how to upgrade my account. All of the "how to's" on THIS website don't help AT ALL. I can't believe a company makes it this hard to GIVE THEM MY MONEY. There should be an option in my account settings to upgrade.

If the previous year return is locked and it asks you to pay, normally the way to pay is to upgrade a current year tax return to PLUS and pay the 19.99.    Since 2018 online TurboTax shutdown in October, the current year's product is now TurboTax 2019, which normally start ups the first week of December (although I believe it was 2-3 days early last year.)

Therefore, it is not possible to use the usual online method of upgrading to 2019 PLUS yet.    Unfortunately Free Edition does not have phone support.    You can contact Customer Support by using messaging at Twitter or Facebook, explain your situation, and that you are trapped in this limbo period, and ask them if they will unlock the previous returns for you.  The links are below.

Or if you qualify to open an IRS account, you can download a free tax return transcript from the IRS.  If you can't download one, a transcript by mail takes 5-10 calendar days.

Can you please explain more about how you did that?   Where did you click on phone support?   And did you phone Support and the recording asked you to purchase PLUS to get through to Support?

After signing in, I clicked "Help" in the top right corner.

On the right side of the screen, a window opened up with a search bar, FAQ's, and at the bottom "Contact us"

I clicked "Contact us" and it said that I needed to purchase Plus to be able to talk.

I believe "purchase" or "Plus" was a hyperlink which I clicked and was taken to a page to confirm my payment info. After I did that, I had access to my previous year tax returns.
