Was your 2016 return prepared with Online TurboTax? If so, log in to your account and look in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents." Choose tax year 2016, and look for a link to download/print the PDF. Do you find evidence of your return there OK, but when you try to download, does it ask you to pay? If it was prepared in Free Edition last year, access will be locked. If that's your situation, we can tell you how to pay to unlock your 2016 return. The method to unlock it depends on what all you have done with your 2018 return.
If you find no evidence at all of your 2016 online return in that account, we can tell you how to look for multiple accounts. A return prepared in desktop software (CD/download) will not be in an online account.
If you find the 2016 return, but access is locked, please answer all of the following:
We can tell you how to unlock a return once you answer all the questions above.
There's also a free option if a return transcript will suit your purpose. You may be able to immediately download one at the IRS website if you qualify to open an IRS account there. Otherwise, to order a transcript to come by postal mail takes 5-10 calendar days.

I filed my 2016 tax return through turbo tax online free edition and now i need to print a copy. I do not see an option to upgrade to pro as the instruction mention. What can i do i acquire my return?
This user posted what he did to pay for Plus now to unlock prior years. So try this.......
"After signing in, I clicked "Help" in the top right corner.
On the right side of the screen, a window opened up with a search bar, FAQ's, and at the bottom "Contact us"
I clicked "Contact us" and it said that I needed to purchase Plus to be able to talk.
I believe "purchase" or "Plus" was a hyperlink which I clicked and was taken to a page to confirm my payment info. After I did that, I had access to my previous year tax returns. "
That might only work during business hours M-F 5-5pm Pacific time (8-8 Eastern)
