I failed to include a 1099-DIV. I am going to have to amend the return as this reporting impacts my refund. The new twist is that originally I chose to apply the refund to next year's taxes. I understand that I should wait to file the amended return, but how do I know when to file the amended return - since I am not going to receive the refund? Do I check the IRS website for status?

Yes, you can check your federal refund status here for your 2024 refund. Even though you have applied it to your tax liability for next year, you will be able to see the status of it.
You can also view your history on your IRS online account. Refer to the IRS website Your Online Account and Here’s how individual taxpayers can view their tax account info for more information.
