New Computer

I purchased TurboTax for tax year 2022 and loaded it on to my PC using the CD. I purchased a new computer that does not have a CD drive and want to download TurboTax on to my new computer but got a message saying the license code is already associated with a different computer. Is there a way to download TurboTax on to my new computer? Or do I have to wait until tax year 2023 and buy TurboTax again?

Even though you can install it 5 times, it seems you can only use the CD 1 time unless you install it on another computer using the other operating system like Mac.  And if you installed from the CD it seems you can not download it from online.  You can't do both CD and download.   See the info on this FAQ

Or try copying the CD to a usb flash drive.  See SteamTrains post here

But do you need to install 2022 on the new computer?  You only need the file ending in .tax2022 to transfer into 2023.

Your tax files end in .tax or .tax2017, .tax2018 or .tax2019 or .tax2020 etc.  They should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder.  You should also have the pdf files of each year.  Or search your computer for all files ending in .tax.  Also if you haven't done it,  I would open each year in the program and save it as a PDF file, go to File-Save to PDF so you don't need the program installed to view or print your return in the future like to get a mortgage or loan, etc.

What I would do is just copy the whole Turbo Tax folder that is under your Documents.  That should be where the .tax files and pdf files are stored.  Copy that folder to a flash drive or best yet is to burn it to a CD or DVD and then you will have a backup of them.   Then on the new computer copy the folder (or files) from the flash drive to your Documents folder.

This FAQ explains how to handle a situation where you bought  a CD, but don't have a CD drive on your computer: https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2590568

Another quicker method is to use another computer to copy the installation files from the CD Rom to a flash/thumb/usb drive, then insert that drive into the first computer and install from the flash/thumb/usb drive.  Do not try to run the install file from the removable medium.

Or  buy an external CD drive… they are inexpensive  and you may need it again later.

Or you can talk to TT Customer Support and see if they will place a download in your online account or advise you of your options.    Here's how to be assigned a phone number to the proper department at TT Customer Support during the business hours shown below (it will not display when they are closed).  Read all the steps first.

1) Go to https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/contact/
2) Choose the product platform you are using.
3)  Ask a question or keywords without quotes, and Submit.
4)  On next page, skip the suggested articles if they don't help.
5) Scroll down, and you should be able to enter the Support module to get a phone number. (That will be grayed out when they are closed).
