You may amend your return to include medical expenses incurred within an assisted living facility. Please read this link and follow the instructions on how to amend for both Turbo Tax Online or the Desktop version depending on which program you are working in.
The IRS mentions you may do this you may claim expenses in an assisted living facility:
- If you, your spouse, or your dependent is in a nursing home primarily for medical care, then the entire nursing home cost (including meals and lodging) is deductible as a medical expense.
- If that individual is in a home primarily for non-medical reasons, then only the cost of the actual medical care is deductible as a medical expense, not the cost of the meals and lodging.
Once you are in your return, go to federal>deductions and credits>medical>medical expenses.
