I was on a J1 visa and considered an NRA in the first half of 2024, and left the US in June 2024.
I recently e-filed both Form 1040NR and Form 8843 through OLT. Being my first time using OLT, I carefully checked Form 1040NR but overlooked Form 8843.
After submission, I realized I made a mistake on Form 8843 - I entered '0' for "the number of days in 2024 you claim you can exclude for purposes of the substantial presence test" when it should have been 160 days. The forms have already been accepted, and I cannot e-file Form 8843 separately.
Can I file an amendment through OLT by submitting Form 1040-X along with a corrected Form 8843? I would specify in Form 1040-X that only Form 8843 information is being corrected, with no changes to Form 1040NR.
Will this create any confusion or delay in processing?

If you amend your return and put on the 1040X explanation that you are correcting the dates on the Form 8843, it will not cause issues or delays in the processing. This is the correct way to do the amendment.
