To clarify and so we can properly address your question, tell us about your immigration status and how it changed?
I was under H1B and changed to a green card holder July 2022.
If you have become a green card holder in 2022, you do not need to report a change in your immigration status in your tax return. You are considered a permanent resident for the entire year per IRS guidelines.
Thank you for the reply. Okay, so I was under F-1status, international student, for a really long time, then became H1B during Oct.2021 then shortly after got my green card on July 2022. I’m not sure if I filed as H1B after my F-1 status changed to H1B, didn’t change anything on the TurboTax app since there were no place to change that. Am I still okay to file without any changes?
Yes, you may file as a US resident alien for the entire this year since you received your Green Card this year.
To update your info, it usually depends on the country. Check with your local immigration office—they often have online portals or forms to make the process smoother. If you're dealing with attestation for UAE, I recommend checking out https://apostillelondon.com/embassy-attestation/uae/. They've got useful info on the process and can guide you through the necessary steps. Remember to stay patient, the paperwork can be a bit of a maze, but you'll get through it!
