My federal tax return appears to have doubled from last year. Nothing has changed as far as wages except I got married. Is that normal?

Generally, filing jointly will give you a bigger refund or less taxes due. So, this could be the case.  Many things change once you get married. First, your standard deduction goes from $12,200 as a single person to $24,400 as a married couple.  Second, you have to consider your spouse's income and withholding, if any.  Compare your taxes from last year and this year to determine where you saved on taxes or increased deductions and withholdings.
