My amended state form didn't require 1040X

After filing taxes this year I received an updated 1099 MISC from from stock investments. I was able to file the amended federal taxes electronically via TurboTax but still need to mail in my amended state taxes (NC and IL). I did not have a form 1040X included in my NC prepared forms (for which I owe money) but I did for IL (for which no balance is owed).

I've never amended taxes on my own but I thought the 1040X was needed for both states? I thought this was odd. Other forms prepared in NC amended tax return include D-400/Schedule AM, D-400TC, D-400 Schedule S, Form IL 1040.

Planning on mailing out tomorrow but figure it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion on this

Yes, for NC, the Schedule AM is the amended schedule to be included with the return when amending it.

Yes, IL does require the filing of Form IL-1040-X to amend an IL individual income tax return.

It sounds like you did use the correct forms for amending the NC and IL state income tax returns.
