Lost filing 2019

Hello All,

I filed my tax extension for the 2019 tax year and I filed by mail both the state and Fed returns.  They are both subsequently lost.  I reached out via secure email to my state and  sent them my return (via email) and they credited my account.  What should I do about the Federal?  I try to call and I can't get through.  You can't email.  Kind of at a loss since it has been awhile since the filing 10/2020.

Thanks!

If you filed your federal return by mail and are certain that it was not received, then your only choice is file it again - by mail.

Use the same address as for the original paper return. Include a short letter explaining that the original was lost and this is a resubmission.

Send it via certified mail, with proof of delivery (return receipt requested). The IRS will not accept emailed returns.

Then, be prepared to wait.  The IRS is behind in almost everything they have to do during tax season and paper-filed returns take the longest time for them to process.
