Letter from IRS

I used TurboTax to electronically file my Federal return. It was received and accepted however I received a letter from the IRS asking for additional information.

My income was from Pensions and Social Security. The IRS is asking for copies of my 1099's from the sources of income.

Any idea why they would need the forms when I did not have to provide them last year?

Most likely it is a random verification of your data.

We would have no idea why the IRS is asking for additional information on your Retirement Income.  You should try calling the phone number given in the letter you received. 

It could be a random thing, or they are cross-checking with the copies of the 1099's that they have, or double-checking your entries in TurboTax. 

I'm sure they will tell you eventually, but it doesn't sound like anything worrisome at this point.
