Is there a way to save my amended state form? I already filed but my state amendment requires the fed amendment to be accepted first w/date of acceptance noted.

You should be able to amend the state only.

From your Tax-Timeline choose "Add a State"

You aren't actually going to add a second state to your return, this just allows you access back into your return to amend the state only.

  • From within your return, you will have your Menu Bar located on the left-hand side of your screen, click on "State"
  • Next, you will see "Let's Get Your Taxes Done Right" click "Continue"
  • Next screen will say "Status of your state returns", click "Edit" next to your state
  • On the next screen, "Your 2017 (Your State's Name) taxes are ready for us to check" under "Other Tax Situations" click "Edit"
  • The next screen should say, "A few things before we wrap up your state taxes", scroll down to "Other Forms" and click "Start" next to "Amend A Tax Return"
  • On the next screen, "Amend Current Tax Year - Do you want to prepare an amendment for tax year 2017" Click "Yes"
  • The next screen will ask you if you want to "Copy Federal Amended Explanation?" click "No"
  • On the next screen "Tell Us Why You're Amending" you will type an explanation and click "Done"
  • Next, you will "Confirm or Enter Previous Refund or Tax Paid" for your 2017 Tax Return and click "Continue". *NOTE: Although it says if none leave blank after I completed the amend it had errors requiring me to enter a number which is why I entered a zero(0) if none. If you leave a box blank for this section and get an error then enter a zero if none.
  • On the next screen, "Prepare Amended Return" to correct any errors on a previously filed return, select Make Corrections. You will be taken through the state program again to make your changes.
  • You can then review information on the amended form and select "Done" when the amended form is complete.
  • On the left-hand side of your screen in the Menu Bar click on the "tax-tools" drop-down and choose "Print Center" from here you can: Print the amended form X, sign it, and mail it in with any necessary documents, if any, of the change.

*Please Note: on the final review it will find one thing that will need to be fixed. When you click on "Fix State" it should only have "E-File ineligibility" which is due to the amend not qualifying to e-file. This is no issue since we know the amend cannot be e-file and will be mailed in. Therefore, you will click "Continue" through the "fix" screens.
