@Butterlove When the government issues a refund offset, they will mail you an explanatory letter detailing how much and why your refund was offset. You can also try calling the IRS directly to find out this information. Go here for tips on reaching a live IRS agent when you call.
Ok..I have a question. I checked the IRS account transcripts. 846 code 3-11-2020 refund. Now when I called the TOP number its said there was 3 offsets. My question is this after ITS issued the 846 refund code and amount..will the offset still occur?
Most probably.
The IRS must first approve the refund amount, after which the offset may be paid.
Hi I have a question. I see 570 code and 971 code with processing date of 2/24/20 . It hasn’t updated since March 2 and has not updated. I’ve received nothing in the mail I filed 1/9/20 my cycle is 20200605 so I know I’m a daily but I have been stuck since February 14 and nothing has changed. When I do call the irs they say a 8 week review but I’m not to sure because I never got a letter and even if so my 8 weeks is about to be up. Can you help
Once the IRS accepts your federal return, all updates are taken over by them. The IRS issues refunds, not TurboTax, so unfortunately, there's not much we can do.
If you're under a 60-day review and haven't heard anything after 60 days, you will need to contact the IRS again to inquire about the delay.
Hello, so last week Friday my transcript was updated with the 846 code. I called offset line today and it stated that I have an offset and this is AFTER I got my 846 code and DD date. Will they take my refund even though I have the 846 code Thanks
Same here . I’m confused.
It depends; code 846 is used to notify that the return has been processed and a refund issued. When your refund is issued, the IRS will determine what amount of offset you have, and your refund will be applied to the offset first. If your refund exceeds the offset amount, you will receive the remaining balance as a refund. If your offset exceeds your refund, the refund will be applied to the offset entirely. The code, however, will still be issued on your transcript to show that a refund was issued
