There are a number of reasons the IRS would send you a 4883c letter, to include selecting you at random. 

  • It may also be to confirm you are a real person, to confirm your identity, or to confirm the tax forms you reported are valid and accurate.

For whatever reason you were selected, they won't process your return until you comply with the letter.

  • This means that the IRS received your tax return but needs more information to process it accurately.

You’ll need to call the IRS toll-free on 800-830-5084 for Identity Verification and have a copy of your prior year tax return, current return, and supporting documents like W-2s, 1099s, Schedule C etc.

When I call it says to do it online at IDVerifiy.IRS.gov but when I do there are so many sites and they just send you all over kingdom Kome, do you have answer how this is completed on line without the run around.
