I'm currently on day 18 after my federal tax return was accepted and has been in processing ever since. Today, a new message popped up under code 152 stating that my return was delayed longer than usual. I did some research and discovered that sometimes the IRS sends a notification to an individual's IRS account. I logged onto mine to find a notification titled 'Verify Your Tax Return Information Now' with a description of 'We need more information about your 2022 tax return before it can be processed.'. Does this mean I was flagged for identity verification? Does this also mean that there isn't necessarily a delay due to an issue with my return? If this is identity verification, how long normally does a direct deposit refund take once verified and how long does it take to get the letter?

The IRS is requesting that you verify your identity before your return can be processed. This doesn't necessarily mean that there is an issue with your return. For more information, including processing time, please visit the IRS help article below.
