I took two distributions from my IRA. I chose one of them to satisfy my RMD by selecting the button, then input the data for how much of the distribution was to be considered RMD. When I save and close the program, then come back later and reopen my file, the selection has changed to None of the this distribution was considered RMD. This has happened over and over again.

Mark the box that says All of this is RMD. While the IRS requires RMD amounts to be calculated starting in the year you (or your spouse) turned 72 (73 if you turned 72 after Dec. 31, 2022), an RMD amount is not shown on your 1099-R.
If you are 72 and older, TurboTax will ask several questions when entering your 1099-R information. The purpose of these questions is to help you determine if you have met the RMD criteria so that you can avoid the IRS penalty.
Note: Your 1099-R issuer is required to follow RMD rules and regulations, so if you received a distribution, and you're at least 72 years young, you can be almost certain you received an RMD. Check with your plan administrator if you're still not sure.
FYI- If you edit or review a 1099R it does not keep your answers from before but resets them to the defaults. Then you have to go through and answer them all again. So be sure to go all the way to the end of the 1099R section. They are right unless you go back. So you probably should go back and double check all of them.
Thanks for the reply. I understand the rules associated with RMDs. My problem is with TurboTax not remembering the selections and data I’ve input.
Going back and checking my selections and data is the problem. If I’ve identified a distribution as an RMD, then go back in, that selection disappears. I have no confidence that the data to be sent to the IRS is correct.
