UPDATED FOR TAX YEAR 2019
If you haven't already filed your return (or if it was rejected), you can indicate that you were claimed as a dependent by someone else by making the changes outlined below and then just submitting or re-submitting your return.
If you have already filed your return, you will have to file an amended return, changing the dependent information.
In order to indicate on your return that someone else has claimed you as a dependent, please follow these steps:
- Click My Info tab in the black bar on the side of your screen.
- Click Edit next to your name.
- On the Personal Info Summary screen click on the Edit icon next to your name.
- On the screen, Your Personal Info, in section #3, for the question Someone else can claim me on their tax return, mark the Yes circle.
- Then mark the circle And this person will claim me on their 2019 return and click Continue.
- Continue with the rest of the return.
