I checked the status on my NYS taxes and they said they made an adjustment but never said what the amount is how do I find out so I know what to expect

If they made an adjustment, they will mail you a letter over the next few weeks with an explanation of what they adjusted and how it affected your refund. 

If you want some information more quickly, you could also call and speak with someone from the New York Department of Taxation and Finance using the numbers at the link below. They would be able to access your account and provide you with additional detail about what happened.
