I recieved a letter from IRS that says they recieved my taxes and are verifying its accuracy. Is this an audit?

Was your return filed by mail? Did it include application for ITIN ? Otherwise , I do not understand why the IRS would send you a note that they are verifying accuracy thereof. Please say more about the situation. Are you a US citizen/Resident ( Green Card ) or what ?
