I need to amend my 2020 tax return

I have filed my 2020 return, and have to pay in.  I have discovered I can claim my deceased mother as a dependent.  I have been advised to amend my return but to mail it in since her SS# is blocked and will cause efile to be rejected.

Why can't I amend my tax return yet?  Since IRS currently shows me owing, I need to amend and submit before the deadline extension.  Please advise.

If your e-file is still pending, you won't be able to make changes until the IRS either accepts or rejects it.
