To edit your name in TurboTax Online, as long as you have not e-file your tax return, please follow the steps below:
- Log into your TurboTax Online Account
- Continue
your return (pick up where I left off)
- Select
the personal info tab in the upper left-hand corner of the TurboTax
program
- Select
Edit next to your name under personal info summary
If you have already e-filed your return then it is too late. Once you transmit your return you cannot change it or get it back. You would have to wait until your return gets rejected or accepted. If rejected, you can make your changes or add information to your return. If accepted, you would need to amend your return to correct or add information to your return.
The IRS only verifies the first five letters of your last name, with your social security number, so If the first five letters were correct then it may be accepted. If it is rejected then you can go back in and correct this information. If your return is Accepted then you can Amend your return so that it shows the correct first name.
TurboTax 2015 Amendment forms will not be available until February 11, 2016. Please refer to the TurboTax FAQ below for additional information regarding amending a return:
