I live in MO my ex filed my daughters return incorrectly and he has amended it. If I’m getting $ back do I need to extend my federal and state?

Your post is confusing.   Did your ex file a tax return for your daughter---for income your daughter received?

Or do you mean he claimed her as a dependent on his own tax return, and should not have claimed her?

If your ex was not supposed to claim your daughter, you cannot e-file a return claiming her this year.  But you can file a return that claims her if you send it in the mail.  Waiting for him to amend will not help you e-file this year--an extension will not help with this.  You can mail your return whenever you have it ready.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
