Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.
If the IRS sent you a bill for taxes owed, there should have been an explanation for what the IRS changed on your tax return to result in the additional taxes owed. What does it say?
If there is no explanation, the IRS should be sending you a letter in the mail explaining the changes.
You can also contact the IRS and speak to an agent for more information.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
Thanks for your reply. There is no reason documented on the mailing I got. I guess I will just have to call them next week and ask. I thought Turbotax is supposed to be accurate. I entered accurate answers to all of their questions, so I don't understand. Of course the IRS waited 2 months to tell me I didn't pay enough so they charged me a penalty and interest.
The IRS should be sending you a notice in a few weeks explaining the change and wht to do if you disagree.
you can also call the iRS

I am sorry that happened and hope you update us when you talk with the IRS.
