I filed my 2019 taxes April 14 as an independent. However, last year I was a student and filed as a dependent under my parents. Will I see a $1,200 stimulus check afterall this year?

Or will the IRS base it on my 2018 return because I filed in mid-April?

You may still receive a check. It is unknown when the IRS is going to review 2018 and 2019 returns to determine eligibility for the stimulus payment. However, if you don't receive the stimulus payment in 2020, you can always receive it as a credit on your 2020 return in 2021. The stimulus is actually an ADVANCE on a credit on your 2020 return.
