A wrong routing number will make the deposit get sent to the wrong bank. Banks aren't supposed to deposit refunds that have a name different than the bank account, so it "shouldn't' go to anyone else.
You may want to speak with your bank and tell them what happened and see if they can determine whether the routing number you used is valid for any bank.
Once the direct deposit is refused, it will be returned back to IRS. IRS then issues a check and mails to the address on the return. This can add an additional week or two of wait time only your refund.
