To be able to split your refund in TurboTax Online, you'll need to choose the credit card payment option (assuming you're not filing for free) and you'll also need to deposit at least $50 of your refund into a U.S. Savings Bond.

How to split your refund
  1. When you get to the How would you like to receive your federal refund?screen, select the last option Put some of my refund on U.S. savings bonds, then continue.
  2. On the next screen, enter a minimum of $50 in the amount field. You can enter more, but it needs to be in $50 increments ($100, $150, $200, etc.) When finished, continue to the next screen.
  3. Select Direct deposit on the following screen and continue.
  4. On the Let's get your bank account screen, be sure to check Split my refund between multiple accounts. This will let you split the remainder of your refund into 2 or 3 accounts – checking, savings, or a combination of both.
