You should wait to see if your return gets rejected, in which case you can add the form 1099-A information and re-submit it. If your return gets processed and you receive your refund or your tax due is accepted, then you can prepare an amended return to enter the form 1099-A information. You will see an option for that on your Tax Home page in TurboTax, under Your Tax Tax Returns & Documents. The amend return feature will not be available until later in the tax season, however.
When you file without the 1095A the IRS will send you a letter asking for you to enter it into system to produce Form 8962 to reconcile advanced premium received. There’s usually a fax number or specific address they’ll want you to send it to in the letter.
If you do receive the IRS letter requiring an 8962, there is a delay in getting the Form. These are the instructions on how to obtain a token number whether you are using TurboTax Online or the TurboTax Desktop/Download version.
TurboTax Online:
Sign into your online account.
Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with an agent.”
This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.
TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:
Open your return.
Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent”
This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created. Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.
