I started to amend my federal return because of a contractor payment I made and a couple of other small changes for one of my small businesses. It turns out it won't matter as to what I owe for taxes (which I already paid). and is not worth the added confusion. How can I cancel what changes I have made and go back like I never started amending my return?

The tag below your question indicates that you are using the desktop TurboTax software (Home & Business in Windows). If that's correct, hopefully you saved a copy of the return with a different name before you started amending it, or you have a backup copy of the return that you actually filed.
If you don't have a copy of the .tax2024 file for the original return, go to forms mode and delete the Form 1040-X. But that will not undo the changes that you made. You will have to go back and manually change everything back to the way it was when you filed. Before you start this process, save a backup copy of the return as it is now, in case you make a mistake and have to start over.

Wow, that is what I was afraid of. I DID print a PDF of the return when I sent it soI guess I can use that to go through the return and make sure it is back to what it was. One more thing is when I do that I assume it will still be an open return that will think I still need to e-file it. Not sure how to get it in the state of "completed". Maybe I can finalize it saying I will mail the return or something?
It doesn't matter if doesn't show that it was filed, as long as you know that it was filed. But yes, if you go through the filing process as if you are going to file by mail, then TurboTax will show that it was filed. You will create a PDF of the forms to be filed, but you don't have to actually print it on paper.
Yeah, that is the plan. Just finish it with a new printed PDF and then the program knows I am "done".
