How to Amend my return to account for IRS error and refile.

For my 2023 Taxes I had filed and do to an unexpected late K1 I needed to amend my return.  Do to a processing error by the IRS they accepted my return but in error had zero'd out my AGI, Taxable income and our withholdings.  I went to meet with them at my local tax office to decipher what had happened.  They apologized but could not resolve it on their side and I need to file another amended return where my 1040-x has the column A (Original Amount report or as previously adjusted) basically starting from zero amounts and then show my true correct amounts in column C.  How can I get turbo tax to do that cleanly so I can amend my return using it.

Thank you, this has been a horrible IRS experience.

How to Amend my return to account for IRS error and refile.

It depends. Your 2023 Turbo Tax return has all the original data in it so by adding the K1,  column A will have the original data and Column C will have the corrected amounts after the addition of the Schedule K-1.

i am not sure what you mean by the amounts being zero because if you filed a 2023 return with Turbo Tax, the original data should still be listed.  Here is how to amend.

To amend your return using Turbo Tax Online.

  1. Log into Turbo Tax
  2. Select Scroll down Your tax returns & documents in your landing page.
  3. Select Amend (change) 2023 return.

To amend using the Desktop Software, go to:

  1. Federal Taxes
  2. Other Tax Situations>other tax forms
  3. Amend a return
