Hi all, I am helping my mom and my step dad for their income tax dispute/matters from a few years back hence I need to submit the form 2848 to irs so that I can speak and act on their behalf. On Jan 22, I signed into irs using my mom's irs online account and electronically submitted the form 2848. My step dad passed away at the end of last year, so I only submitted one form 2848 to irs. I did not get a confirmation email even though irs claims that I should've gotten one. Also irs claims that submitting 2848 using a tax pro account takes only six business days to process. But it's been more than six business days and I still have not heard from them. I don't think my mom's irs online tax is "tax pro"so I am not sure if that is the reason that it took more than six business days, but it let me filed anyways.. Can anyone help with this? Thank you so much.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Electronic Form 2848 submissions are typically processed in about 6-business days only when filed through a Tax Pro Account (CPA, EA, or attorney).
Submissions made through an individual taxpayer’s IRS Online account generally take longer.
You can check the IRS account to see whether the authorization has been posted, though status updates aren't always available.
If time-sensitive, you can call the IRS and, once connected to an agent, fax a signed paper copy of Form 2848 directly to them. This is usually the fastest alternative.
