I made a very poor assumption that the account I had set up for TurboTax charges would be the account used if there was an amount due.  I didn't pay my taxes!

I would suggest you pay "NOW" online at <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.irs.gov/directpay">http://www.irs.gov/directpay</a>. Then the IRS will send you a separate bill in the mail for any interest, penalties and late fees. When you get that paper bill in the mail, you can then pay that online also at the same website.

I did get an "unpaid taxes" notice, but was shocked!  Thanks for your answer.

To pay the Turbo Tax fees you would have used a credit card not a bank account.  Unless you used a debit card/ATM.  To pay the federal tax due you needed to enter the bank account and routing number in the File tab when you efiled.  Did you do that?  And some banks use different routing numbers for deposits and payments.  You should have gotten an instruction sheet when you filed saying how you selected to pay.  Your only proof of payment is your bank statement or credit card statement showing the payment coming out.
