TurboTax recommends that one make a copy of the original return prior to amending it. Here are some possibilities:
Was the original 2017 return prepared in Online TurboTax? If so, how did you prepare the 2017 amended return? Did you amend it online prior to the October 2018 shutdown, or did you amend it after October 2018 and had to use the downloaded "amend software" on your computer?
If you amended it Online, then the return PDF you can download from your online account will no longer have the original 2017 return in it. If you amended it online, then the original return was changed. In any case, we can tell you how to get the 2017 PDF.
On the other hand, if you amended an online 2017 return using the downloaded "amend software", then the PDF in your online account still has the original 2017 return in it. We can tell you how to get it.
Are you able to download your 2017 return PDF when you log in and go to the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" and choose tax year 2017, then "download/print the PDF?" Or is access locked, and it asks you to pay? If locked, we can tell you how to pay to unlock the file.
A free tax return transcript from the IRS will have the info from your original 2017 Federal return in transcript form. You may be able to immediately download one at the IRS website if you qualify to open an IRS account there. Otherwise, to order a transcript to come by postal mail takes 5-10 calendar days.
