A 2017 tax data file with a file extension of .tax2017 can only be opened by the 2017 TurboTax desktop software installed on a personal computer.

The 2017 app is no longer supported so even if you bought a desktop copy, updates and state returns would not be available. some sites may offer the 2017 app but installation may not be possible and state returns are also no longer available. Opening your return with an app that is outdated is likely to change it from what was filed. 

 

if you have the .tax2017 file there is a web service that will print your return for a fee. it is not affiliated with Turbotax. use at your own risk because it requires you to email them the file.
