Yes, if you had more withholding over the year than was due, or if you paid an estimated tax that was too much, you just need to file your tax return to reconcile it and it will be refunded.
That's not what I'm asking. I evidently set up direct payment of taxes when Turbo tax filed my return in March. But I couldn't find a record of it anywhere. No emails with confirmation number. Nothing. So on Tuesday, April 18, I was worried I hadn't set it up especially when it hadn't been deducted by late in the day from my account. I tried accessing my IRS account but they said they couldn't verify it was me. So, I set up direct pay. Within six hours, my bank account had two withdrawals from the IRS for the same amount. I have been unsuccessful in getting help from the IRS or from Turbo Tax.
What should I do?
