How do I claim this deduction when amending a return?

I just filed my mom's taxes using TurboTax online, and the return was accepted by the feds.

The problem is I just realized there's a major expense we should have claimed:

Specifically, we put a new roof on our home. A bit of Googling indicates a new roof is considered an improvement, as opposed to a repair.

And because it's an improvement, that means it qualifies for a tax deduction.

Unfortunately, when we log in and click "amend (change) return," there's no clear way to claim this deduction.

I click on the thing that brings us to a screen that says, "Your tax breaks," then we click "Your home," and it shows the following categories:

Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098)

Property (Real Estate) Taxes

Home Energy Credits

Mortgage Interest Credit Certificate

2008 Homebuyer Credit Repayment

D.C. First-Time Homebuyer Credit

But there's no category for declaring a home improvement expense.

Note mom took the standard deduction, as opposed to doing itemized deductions.

How should we proceed?

Thank you!

if the property isn't rental this is no deduction or credit for a new roof. it does add to basis. in this case, there is nothing to amend.

Ah, thank you. I must have misunderstood something I'd seen during my Google searches on this topic.
